AREDS2 and who it is actually for
Vision & Eye Health
Eye health is one of the few areas with a large, well-run randomised trial behind a specific supplement formula — with clearly defined limits on who benefits.
What the evidence says
- The AREDS2 formula slows progression in people with intermediate or advanced age-related macular degeneration in one eye.
- It is not shown to prevent macular degeneration in people who do not already have it.
- Omega-3 supplementation did not reduce AMD progression in the AREDS2 trial.
